đ§Going silent doesnât stop the cancellation. it just picks a more expensive one.
Some subscription teams deliberately avoid emailing active subscribers because they worry a reminder will make someone remember theyâre paying for a subscription and cancel. It sounds like a retention strategy. In reality, it rarely prevents the cancellation. It simply delays the moment the customer notices and changes how they decide to leave.
A customer doesnât forget a subscription forever.
Eventually something brings it back into view: a bank statement, a shelf full of unused products, or a change in routine that suddenly makes the monthly charge stand out. When that happens after months of silence, the reaction is rarely, âIâll pause this for now.â Itâs much more likely to be, âWhy am I still paying for this?â That frustration often ends in a support ticket, a negative review, or even a chargeback.
The customer was always going to make a decision.
Silence only changes which exit they choose.
Not every cancellation costs the same
The difference isnât just lost revenue.
Itâs whether the customer leaves the door open to return.
Check how subscribers are actually leaving
Pull the last quarter of cancellation records and group them by exit type.
If support-led cancellations and chargebacks consistently outnumber pauses and skips, youâve found the fingerprint of a silence strategy already doing exactly what it was designed to do, just not in your favor.
The problem isnât that people are leaving.
Itâs that theyâre leaving through the most expensive door available.
Make the easy exit visible before itâs needed
The answer isnât sending more retention emails.
Itâs making the pause and skip option familiar before usage naturally slows.
Building that workflow manually means exporting cancellation records, classifying exit types, and identifying the moments where subscribers should be reminded that flexible options exist. Itâs valuable work, but it rarely reaches the top of the priority list.
Thatâs exactly what Jimmy Kim and Chase Dimond of eCom Email Marketer, together with Bernard Meyer of Omnisend, explore in a free 56-minute session.
They walk through the AI prompts and workflows they actually use, including where AI speeds up the analysis and where human judgment still makes the final decision. You can watch the session here.
The brands protecting long-term subscription revenue arenât preventing every cancellation. Theyâre making sure the easiest way to leave is also the easiest way to come back.
Together with AirOps
Most SEO audits check rankings. Thatâs the wrong instrument now.
AirOps just published State of AEO 2026, a data breakdown of what actually predicts AI Search visibility. A few numbers worth your attention:
Pages updated in the last 3 months get cited 3x more than stale ones.
Clean heading hierarchies drive 2.8x higher citation rates.
85% of brand mentions in AI answers come from third-party sources, not owned pages.
The volatility data is the real find. Brands earning both a mention and a citation are 40% more likely to resurface across answers, and most brands that drop out come back within two runs if the underlying signals hold.
Carta saw a 7x increase in AI citations. Chime tripled theirs in four weeks.
If AI visibility is becoming part of your growth target, this report gives you the benchmarks and signals to audit against your own performance.
đ± Social platforms double down on original content
Social platforms are reshaping content strategies, from making text more watchable to rewarding original creators while pushing back against low-quality AI content.
The Breakdown:
Reddit Turns Posts Into Videos - Reddit is testing a TikTok-style experience where viral posts can be watched or listened to through narrated videos. CEO Steve Huffman said spoken Reddit content could become a new format, with testing planned later this year.
Video Momentum Keeps Growing - Redditâs video comments, launched in June, already account for more than 10% of all video posts. The shift suggests written posts may increasingly evolve into short-form video content.
Instagram Needs More Creators - Instagram viewers still outnumber creators by roughly 2:1, meaning most users consume content instead of publishing it. Brands and creators who consistently post still have a strong opportunity to stand out.
AI Slop Faces Pushback - Snapchat is reducing the visibility of low-quality AI-generated content in Spotlight. LinkedIn recently signaled a similar approach, suggesting platforms are placing greater value on authentic, human-created content.
Platforms are rewarding engaging, original content in new formats while becoming less tolerant of low-effort AI posts. For creators and brands, quality and consistency are becoming bigger competitive advantages than volume.
